Audion goes on hybernate state… one of the best MP3 audio player before iTunes age,
Audigone: “
You may have heard the news that WinAmp is effectively no more.
The counterpart to this story is that Audion is also no more. It will still be available for download (now for free!) but we will no longer be offering support or doing further development.
I'm sure this is probably not surprising news to the majority of you. We know better than anyone that many of even the most devoted Audion fanatics have already made the jump to iTunes.
We wanted to take a moment to explain why we are officially discontinuing development of Audion, rather than just letting it continue to wither on the vine without any comment. To that end, Cabel has compiled a rather extensive history of Audion that is a must-read for Panic historians, or really anyone curious about events of the MP3 revolution.

As registered user and happy Audion fan I can not deny that the heavy iTunes integration with Mac OS X and iPod have been a no-win situation for Audion. In fact we dropped registering it after version 2.
Nevertheless we greatly miss the huge Face Gallery, the high Think Different and creative feeling sitting underneath Audion.app.
Here a screenshot of one of my favorite faces. Click to enlarge it.
